20240125 – Industrial Helmets Ready for Manufacturing

In a world where the drumbeats of technological advancement are often accompanied by the whispers of environmental concern, Industry 5.0 emerges as a beacon of hope, promising a revolution that places humanity and sustainability at the heart of innovation. As we stand on the cusp of this new industrial paradigm, it’s essential to understand how it builds upon the digital transformation of Industry 4.0, which brought us the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and unprecedented levels of automation.

“Born, Not Built” is our theme to incorporate Additive Manufacturing as the basis for the production of our smart and connected products. Employing sustainability via reducing waste is our go-forward theme for manufacturing and we will strive to not only reduce waste but utilize reusable sources of energy, be mindful of resource use and reduce the footprint of supply chain logistics.

Our smart helmets exemplify this concept of organically evolving utilizing parametric modeling, generative design and 3D modeling techniques, whereby we can:

  • configure the size and shape of the helmet based on 3D scanned point cloud information and ISO standard head shapes.
  • enable foldability for various considerations: small shipping footprint, more stack ability in a warehouse and more convenient to carry around.
  • conform to the different variants of helmet types by simple updates.
  • iterate quickly on redesigns.
  • conform to producing them in different material composites including continuous fiber reinforcement to strengthen them using carbon fiber and kevlar (Markforged printers).
  • make them amenable to new ways of manufacturing using 3D printed casts for injection molding.
  • embed Arduino and Stroma sensors for smart monitoring using our CONNECT-DETECT-PROTECT protocol for data engineering and provisioning for actionable intelligence.

Our Industrial and Military smart helmets are prototype done and getting ready for manufacturing and testing. Here are some appropriate prototype print shots that showcase the 3D print with tree supports indicating the blend of the organic and the inorganic that we are engraining in our solutions.

The reason for such a print was also to enable Markforged printers to equally distribute the continuous reinforcement of carbon fiber/Kevlar so that both halves have the same density.

This other print we placed Slat 1 as a boat.

We have Arduino Nicla Sense ME embedded in the back to monitor temperature, CO2, humidity, impact and geolocation and are building an end-to-end data engineering fabric to CONNECT-DETECT-PROTECT using actionable intelligence to convert meaning to motion.

Soon we will have variants for Construction, First Responder/Firefighter, Urban commute, Recreation and Well-being.

They “stand” up to competition!
