In the image above, I asked meta.ai to imagine a future supersonic aircraft by merging the Concorde with the Boom Supersonic Overture.
20220905 – The Feasibility
John H. Schmidt commented: Boom Supersonic’s development schedule shows the rollout of the first prototype in 2025, giving it about three years to line up its suppliers, establish a facility to build the airplane, and assemble the planned four-engine, composite-bodied, 65- to 80-passenger Overture in response to this article on “As Boom Seeks Engine, Airlines Mull over supersonic Use Case.”
Our Perspective
Boom or bust? Use cases are critical to define and decide the feasibility of a solution.
Supersonic travel is great but the time saving needs to be justified both from the cost perspective and the end-to-end total time of travel.Plus supply chain, reliability, sustainability and long-term viability need to be understood completely before considering an alternative to the current. Lessons learned from our prior foray with the Concorde also needs to be factored in.
At Numorpho Cybernetic Systems (NUMO) our goal is to enable the management of the knowns and the unknowns to correctly ascertain the path forward in all our intentions. Our reference architecture, the Digital Twine World Model (DTWM) enables us to correctly map all of the information sources and define their flow and end points so that all collaborators have the right basis for moving forward.
20240530 – The Viability
In a subsequent article on LinkedIn by John H. Schmidt: This is a good video explaining the history of supersonic travel, as well as Boom Supersonic’s plan to revive supersonic passenger flights and revolutionize long-distance travel.
Will the XB-1 usher in the return of supersonic travel? (interestingengineering.com)
Our Take
Boom Supersonic has been working on an alternative to the erstwhile Concorde for some time now and here is an article explaining the basis of its XB-1 “Baby Boom” experimental aircraft, a precursor to the Boom Overture.
The video explains the history and the trials and tribulations of product development of the Concorde. The CEO, Blake Scholl also touches on the technical underpinnings and the business viability of the solution for supersonic travel stating that the time is right/ripe for such a venture.
Key features:
– Advanced Aerodynamics and materials tailored for high-speed travel
– Optimized Fuel consumption
– Efficient Turbofan engines
– Utilization of Digital Design and Simulations to validate prior to prototype build
– Attenuated sonic boom for noise reduction in faster than sound travel
We at Numorpho Cybernetic Systems (NUMO) have been following Boom Supersonics’ progress with intent since our underpinnings are also in aerospace and automotive technologies and our current endeavor is to build a generative AI driven process engineering platform the Mantra M5 to coordinate activities in make, manage, move, market and maintain.
