ABOUT

The first in the “mHUB Hardware Product Development Fundamentals” Curriculum, this class covers an overview of General Project Management by explaining two different frameworks that have been successfully deployed across many industries:

  1. Traditional “Phase-Gate” and
  2. the more versatile “Agile”.

Taught by Jim Shaw, the goal is to walk away with from this class with a much better understanding of how to manage teams and tasks, and a framework to launch your product to market on time and on budget.

“If you ask for money, you will get advice but if you ask someone for advice, you might end up getting money.” There are not 3 but 4 Fs that startups need to be mindful of the fourth being Faculty.

Jim Shaw has had a successful career spanning Defense, Commercial products and the Automotive domain, and is now as proprietor of Fastway consults and trains on CAD and CAE. They are also a recent reseller for the Ansys Simulation tool package.

Systems Engineering vs Design Thinking

mHUB runs a series of accelerator programs that comprise of cohort companies per domain that are selected to ideate on their vision by collaborating with each other and startup companies here, with access to all the hardtech equipment and facilities, mentoring program and institutional relationships with large companies. 8-10 companies in a particular domain collaborate and with us on a daily basis for a 6-month program. We have IoT, MedTech and CleanTech now with us (around 25 companies) that are dedicated to hardtech innovation where connectivity in its various flavors is key:

  • For IIoT it is the interaction between smart devises via edge servers and service meshes,
  • For MedTech it is short range biometric information that is fed to mobile devices to be uploaded to the cloud for health information, and
  • For CleanTech it is remote management of field equipment and monitoring its conditions.
