PTC and BAE Systems are creating a new augmented reality (AR)-enabled helmet for fighter pilots, designed to display data directly onto a pilot’s visor and give mission updates in real-time.

The last statement in the article is pertinent: “Another development is the virtual cockpit environment where the helmet is able to provide all of the information the pilot needs,” BAE Systems said. “How they utilize that information is key.”
At Numorpho Cybernetic Systems (NUMO), we are building an end-to-end data fabric to enable smart monitoring, be it in terms of alerts/warnings, safety considerations, operational enablement, environment sensing, proximity detection, wellcare bio-metrics and/or predictive actionability.
Our unique parametric design pattern has enabled different folding of the helmet and building it using Additive Manufacturing to include composite construction using Kevlar and Carbon Fiber (Markforged Continuous Reinforced Fiber printing coupled with Wurth Additive Manufacturing’s expert advice). This has also enabled us to cater to usability: storing, shipping and warehousing in addition to safety considerations.

Our smart helmets are currently equipped with Arduino Nicla sensors, and we are planning several more enhancements to enable multi-modal perception, not only in our helmets but also other mobility products that are in the works that coordinate information from multiple different sources and IoT gateways.
User interfaces for such enablements are key from having dashboards, to personalized warning systems that could be #hud driven (like in the article), haptic, mobile, desktop and/or ping notifications and correspond with #digitaltwins to enable interactions.
Our goal is to enable actionable intelligence by converting meaning to motion and provide for a diverse set of use cases using #genai driven inference engines.
Stay tuned to exciting partnership briefings soon as we enable more features and functionalities from physical manufacturing, electronic componentry and marketing detailing in the next few weeks.
